FHA LAUNCHES 1,200-UNIT HOUSING PROJECT IN ABUJA, DISBURSES N10.6 BILLION MORTGAGES TO 962 RECIPIENTS

In a significant move, the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has initiated a partnership with two companies to commence the construction of a housing complex comprising 1,200 units in the vibrant city of Abuja.

Through a collaborative effort with Nuga Best International and Regis Integrated Services Limited, this public-private venture aims to address housing needs by delivering a variety of dwelling options such as apartments, detached and semi-detached houses, along with terrace duplexes, situated in the Mbora District.

At the commencement ceremony, Gbenga Ashafa, the Managing Director of FHA, emphasized that the development would be outfitted with standard infrastructure. Ashafa reaffirmed the FHA's dedication to advancing the government's housing agenda by capitalizing on the construction sector's potential to stimulate job opportunities.

He remarked, "The journey over the years has been characterized by remarkable accomplishments and significant milestones. We take pride in our consistent efforts that have elevated FHA into an exceptionally high-performing agency."

Hilary Chukwuma, the Chairman of Nuga Best International, emphasized that the housing estate would address the housing challenges faced by individuals in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), catering to various segments of potential buyers.

Meanwhile, FHA Mortgage Bank has successfully disbursed N10.6 billion in National Housing Funds (NHF) loans to 962 beneficiaries, marking a significant stride towards enhancing affordable and accessible homeownership for all Nigerians.

Hayatudeen Awwal, the Managing Director of the bank, disclosed this achievement during the handover ceremony of homes to the 1041 beneficiaries of NHF loans, a notable number of whom are medical professionals based in Abuja. These houses are spread across multiple states, including Abuja, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Enugu, Plateau, Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, and Zamfara.

Awwal affirmed, "We celebrate the successful processing, disbursement, and handing over of keys to homeowners."

He further highlighted the bank's contribution to job creation, having generated over 200 employment opportunities through housing initiatives. "Through this, we are aligning with President Bola Tinubu's vision of delivering affordable housing to Nigerians."

Awwal underscored the role of mortgage facilities in providing a practical solution for Nigerians to acquire homes, contrasting it with the prevalent cash-based approach that has perpetuated corruption and hardship.

Ashafo urged beneficiaries to uphold their repayment commitments, noting, "The NHF is not a finite resource; it's a continuous cycle. Once occupants move into their homes, repayment should continue to ensure others can benefit from the initiative."

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Dr. Adejo Arome expressed gratitude to the officials of both institutions for making homeownership attainable for doctors. He emphasized that facilitating doctors' homeownership could potentially alleviate issues like brain drain and recurring strikes within the medical community.
