Advocate Urges Collaborative Efforts to Foster Progress in the Construction Sector

Bayo Adalemo, a recognized expert in the building and construction industry and the Managing Director of Design Protocol, has strongly advocated for collaboration among professionals to ensure sustainable development within the sector.

Adalemo emphasized the indispensable role of collaboration, asserting that the true success of construction projects relies on seamless cooperation among all the professionals involved. He expressed these sentiments during the Architecture & Design panel discussion at the recently concluded Big 5 Construct 2023 conference and exhibition in Lagos.

The Big 5 Construct Nigeria event stands as the largest gathering in the country's construction industry, serving as a platform for connecting local and international construction stakeholders, promoting innovative ways of collaboration, and exploring the latest construction techniques and technology.

This year's edition delved into various aspects of construction, including the pivotal role of digitalization, the synergy between design and technology in shaping value-centric architecture, and the journey toward smart construction for a sustainable future.

Adalemo underscored the critical importance of collaborative efforts, stating, "Collaboration is not merely a buzzword but an absolute necessity in our industry. A truly successful project cannot be achieved unless all professionals, ranging from architects to engineers, contractors, and more, collaborate effectively."

He advised that collaboration should commence from the initial conceptualization stage of projects, emphasizing that involving all professionals at the project's earliest stages could lead to significant cost savings for the industry.

"The advantages of early involvement are twofold: firstly, it allows for a comprehensive perspective, ensuring the project aligns with the desired outcome. Secondly, it reduces the need for costly revisions and changes during later stages of construction," he explained.

Adalemo shared insights on how to enhance efficiency, minimize waste, and promote sustainable development. His session shed light on how a collaborative approach could not only improve project outcomes but also contribute to the overall economic viability of the industry.

His views have sparked discussions among industry stakeholders about the imperative of nurturing collaboration and engaging all professionals in construction projects right from the conceptual stage. He expressed hope that as the construction sector continues to evolve, the principles highlighted during the conference would play a pivotal role in shaping the future of construction in Nigeria and across the entire African continent.
