The Lagos State Government has announced that night-time repair works will take place on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, covering the stretch from Bonny Camp Junction, between Monday, September 15 and Sunday, September 21, 2025.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that works will be executed between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. daily to ease the impact on daytime traffic.
“Carrying out these repairs at night is a deliberate step to minimize disruptions for commuters and to enhance traffic flow along one of the city’s busiest corridors,” the statement noted.
The government is urging motorists to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic management officials throughout the period of repairs.
What This Means for Road Users & Property Stakeholders
This intervention on Ozumba Mbadiwe comes at a time when Lagos is already contending with major infrastructure works on the Oworonshoki/Third Axial Bridge. That 110-day emergency repair programme, which began on May 6 and runs until September 23, 2025, has seen the bridge undergoing works in eight phases:
Phases 1–4 (May 6 – July 14): inbound carriageway toward the 3rd Mainland Bridge.
Phases 5–8 (July 15 – September 23): outbound carriageway.
These repairs have resulted in partial lane closures, making the use of alternative routes critical for easing congestion.
Suggested alternatives include:
Eko Bridge, Funsho Williams Avenue, Ikorodu Road, Ojota Slip Road, and the Anthony–Oshodi corridor.
For travellers heading to Mowe and adjoining communities, Funsho Williams Avenue and Eko Bridge remain practical options.
From Ikeja, commuters can connect through Maryland to Funsho Williams Avenue, then proceed via Eko Bridge/Outer Marina.
Broader Implications
For commuters, these works may mean longer travel times, but for real estate and business stakeholders along these corridors, the infrastructure upgrades signal a long-term value boost. Improved accessibility and smoother traffic flow typically enhance the desirability of residential and commercial properties in the affected districts—particularly Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Lekki, and Marina, which are directly linked to the Ozumba Mbadiwe stretch.
By scheduling the works at night, the Lagos Government is showing sensitivity to urban mobility needs while also prioritizing infrastructure renewal, a move that is expected to support the city’s long-term growth and property market stability.
