Experts Call on Realtors to Uphold Ethical Standards

Leading figures in the real estate industry have expressed concerns about unethical practices by some practitioners, which have resulted in numerous failed and fraudulent transactions, diminishing the confidence of potential investors and buyers.

Realtors nationwide are advocating for sustainable practices and emphasizing the importance of transparency among professionals as key measures to restore investor confidence.

During the inaugural Abuja Real Estate Fireside Chat, organized by 50 Rein and themed 'Truth Redefined,' convener and engineer Mark Onyekachi highlighted the industry's vulnerability to fraudulent activities, especially from unethical professionals eager to exploit investors and buyers. He stressed the need to protect this multi-billion naira sector from such individuals to preserve the reputation of those who adhere to ethical standards.

Onyekachi also called for strategic collaboration between the government and the industry to help professionals regain investor trust and prevent scams.

Olajide Abiola, founder of Infinite Acres and Smart Residences, emphasized the need to promote ethical practices within the industry to maintain mutual understanding with investors. He pointed out that building trust involves being transparent in all dealings and delivering on promises.
Similarly, Barka Msheila, CEO of Mshel Homes, suggested that the industry's trust issues could be mitigated through partnerships with the government to enforce ethical behavior and professionalism. He advocated for implementing disciplinary actions to ensure practitioners adhere to the profession's ethics.

During a panel discussion, Munachino Eze, CEO of Muna Real Estate, underscored the importance of trust in business. He noted that beyond the real estate sector, trust is a crucial characteristic for attracting investors and fostering business growth.
