LASBCA Mandates Authorization Letter for Developers

The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has enforced a requirement for developers to obtain a letter of authorization before initiating construction on any building within the state.

Gbolahan Oki, the General Manager of LASBCA, announced this during the presentation of authorization letters to developers of the Lagos Arena. He emphasized that the authorization letter is only issued to developers and builders who have secured the necessary building/planning permit. This document signifies LASBCA's awareness of the development and ensures regular supervision at every construction stage.
Alongside the construction authorization letter, LASBCA provides a green sticker enabling inspections at various construction stages to guarantee the safety and habitability of buildings for occupants and owners.

Oki outlined the procedure, stating that developers must submit their building plan approval to LASBCA before commencing construction to obtain the authorization letter. This allows LASBCA's professional team, including builders, architects, and engineers, to conduct thorough inspections from foundation to completion. Upon project completion, the owner receives a certificate of completion and fitness for habitation.

Additionally, Oki cautioned building material producers, particularly block makers, against compromising product quality due to rising costs of cement and reinforcement materials. He warned that such compromises could jeopardize the structural integrity of newly constructed buildings.
He urged the public to adhere to building regulations, ensuring a seamless construction process, and invited LASBCA for stage-by-stage inspections after obtaining the authorization letter.
