Osun State Launches Reforestation Initiative for Ago Owu Forest Reserve

The Osun State Government, in partnership with foreign collaborators, has initiated a reforestation program for the Ago Owu Forest Reserve. The government has urged local communities to cooperate with officials to ensure the project's success.

At a recent meeting with representatives from the host communities, the state Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Mr. Mayowa Adejoorin, emphasized the importance of their support in gathering essential data for the project's development. He highlighted the benefits of reforestation and encouraged residents to engage with government policies on climate change by planting more trees.

The meeting, aimed at data gathering and capturing, was opened by the Commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Richard Oyegbami. Adejoorin stressed the need for a clean and safe environment, free from harmful gases, and commended the community's enthusiasm for the project. He urged residents to protect the newly planted trees to ensure the reforestation goals are met.
Dr. Edu Efe, leader of the Nature Based Solution of the AhDrabad Noblesse Green Carbon Investment Project, provided further details about the initiative. He explained that the project involves collecting baseline data to be included in the development document for Ago Owu Forest Reserve. Dr. Efe highlighted the numerous benefits of reforestation, noting that cocoa and other cash crops would thrive better under the shade of trees. The reforestation initiative represents a significant step towards sustainable environmental management in Osun State, with the active involvement of local communities playing a crucial role in its success.
