Renowned Nigerian gospel artist Mercy Chinwo has broken her silence in an emotional video addressing the ongoing legal battle with her former manager, Ezekiel Onyedikachi, popularly known as EeZee Tee. The two are currently embroiled in a fraud-related court case.
In the three-minute video, Chinwo alleged that EeZee Tee bullied and threatened her, leading to her relocation from Lagos to Port Harcourt for safety.
"You said because you made me, you can destroy me. You're not God, you can't destroy me. You get bloggers, I get God," she declared defiantly.
She also claimed that EeZee Tee withheld her royalties for two years and initially filed the lawsuit against her, contrary to public perception.
The dispute traces back to a 2017 management contract that Chinwo signed with EeZee Tee, which she alleges became problematic after she declined to extend it.
"You carried me to court, but you claimed I was oppressing you," she added, accusing EeZee Tee of trying to tarnish her image publicly.
EeZee Tee, for his part, took to Instagram to maintain his innocence, stating that the legal issue stems from Chinwo breaching their contractual agreement. He alleged that $274,000 was unlawfully retained by Chinwo, leading him to file a case with the EFCC.
"I chose to follow legal processes despite being unlawfully detained by the EFCC for nine days," he said, challenging Chinwo to release her bank records.
According to Chinwo's legal team, an EFCC investigation in 2024 found EeZee Tee guilty of diverting $274,000 from the singer's digital revenues, issuing an arrest warrant against him. EeZee Tee, however, denied the accusations, claiming the funds were wrongly extorted from him.
Mercy Chinwo rose to fame after winning Nigerian Idol in 2012 and made a major impact in the gospel music scene with her 2018 hit single Excess Love. Known for her powerful voice and spiritual lyrics, she has collaborated with gospel stars like Nathaniel Bassey and Chioma Jesus.
