AFRILAND Properties Plc, a real estate company, says it has reduced carbon emissions in the country through its activities, for developments and environmental sustainability.
A statement from the company made available on Thursday in Lagos, said that Mrs Uzo Oshogwe, Managing Director of the company, made this known at the 10th edition of “Unite“ ESG, a real estate event in Africa.
According to the statement, Oshogwe was represented by Mr Kayode Odebiyi, Director, Property Development, Afriland Properties.
Oshogwe said that social and environmental sustainability were among the critical criteria considered by the organisation for its property investment.
She also said that the firm adopted four pillars that formed its sustainability criteria for property investment, which includes social, environmental sustainability, economic and human sustainability.
“At Afriland, it is an entire process that starts from the design stage to completion.
“The thought process is facilitated by a dedicated team that champions the framework to ensure excellence in the design and durability of the project to ensure it meets environmental sustainability standards.
“We have a group-wide framework that demands responsibility for our environment and that our actions actively contribute to healing the land rather than hurting it, “ Oshogwe said.
According to the Afriland Properties` boss, the company has deployed autonomous lighting systems that monitor and react to occupancy to reduce energy consumption as well as energy-saving lighting solutions.
“It is important to ensure that our activities do not constitute an environmental hazard to the localities in which we operate.
“We have also significantly improve lives by providing employment opportunities and platforms for locals to upscale their intellectual capacity,” she said.
Oshogwe said the company was ready to continue to champion the green cause for a cleaner future environment.
The managing director said the firm would drive technological adoption and promote more green features in its developments and in communities to promote a more sustainable environment.
“The company is focusing on wholly addressing issues that affect all environmental impact; its activities could cause and continue in the progression from being a high-impact to being a main part of the solution. “
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Afriland properties recently announced the launch of five new development projects to include; Iris Court (Ikeja), the Rouge (Ikoyi), Afriland Estate (Karmo in Abuja).
Others include; the Emporium (Port-Harcourt) and Afriland Complex in Abule Egba. (NAN)
