Lagos Initiates Crackdown on Unregistered Estate Agents

The Lagos State Government has issued a stern warning to individuals and entities operating in the real estate sector without proper registration with the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA). The warning comes as part of efforts to ensure transparency and combat fraudulent practices in the real estate industry within the state.
 
Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, the Commissioner for Housing in Lagos State, delivered the cautionary message during the 2024 Ministerial Press Briefing commemorating the first year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's second term in office. He emphasized the necessity of adhering to LASRERA registration requirements to maintain integrity and legality in real estate transactions.

Akinderu-Fatai urged residents to exercise caution when engaging with real estate agents and to verify their registration status with LASRERA to avoid falling victim to unscrupulous practices. He underscored the importance of compliance with regulatory standards and urged the public to report any suspicious activities by unregistered agents.
 
Providing an overview of the achievements within the housing sector during the review period, the commissioner highlighted significant progress in various ongoing housing schemes across different divisions of the ministry. These include projects such as the Egan-Igando Mixed Housing Scheme, LagosHOMS Sangotedo Phase, Epe Housing Scheme in Itamarun, LagosHOMS Ajara in Badagry, and LagosHOMS Ibeshe Phase 2 in Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA.
 
Akinderu-Fatai also noted the successful collaboration between the Lagos State Government and the private sector in joint venture schemes, resulting in the construction of thousands of housing units for residents of Lagos. He reaffirmed Governor Sanwo-Olu's commitment to delivering affordable housing solutions and outlined the administration's strategic initiatives aimed at addressing the housing challenges in Lagos State.
In conclusion, the commissioner emphasized the importance of collective efforts and innovative strategies from all stakeholders to achieve the vision of affordable housing for Lagosians. He reiterated the administration's dedication to implementing bold and resilient measures under the T.H.E.M.E.S. + Agenda to tackle housing issues effectively.
